Western Health transforms workplace and patient care with bold modernisation program

Australia, Sep 12, 2023

From Gartner IT Symposium/Xpo Gold Coast, Australia  – 12 September 2023: Logicalis Australia, a leading IT solutions and managed services provider, has been engaged by Western Health Victoria after a tender process to assist with an ambitious Modern Workplace transformation program, aimed at enhancing collaboration, communication, security, and document management capabilities within its health service. Western Health is the major healthcare provider to one of the fastest growing and most diverse regions of Australia, servicing a community of more than 900,000 people.

In the face of numerous technical and end-user challenges, Western Health recognised the need for a comprehensive transformation, to mitigate risks and improve user experiences. The existing infrastructure suffered from disjointed processes, ineffective tools, as well as storage and compute limitations. To support Western Health’s continued growth and commitment to delivering high-quality healthcare services, the organisation embarked on a digital transformation and modernisation journey. At the core of the initiative, was the protection of patient data and identity.

The initiative involved several critical components, including a rebuild of the Health Service’s Active Directory and setting the foundations for the Modern Workplace and Modern Management programs. The program also included the ERP (Electronic Resource Planning) and EMR (Electronic Medical Records) rollout, optimising data efficiency and accessibility. This is being delivered in conjunction with improvements to document management and compliance through the implication of a robust records management solution.

To foster seamless communication and collaboration, Logicalis Australia facilitated the integration of Microsoft 365, empowering Western Health staff to work more efficiently and securely, whether in-office or remote. In support of Western Health’s growth trajectory, Logicalis Australia also worked on strengthening the health provider’s Microsoft Azure environment, enabling scalability, reliability, and cost-efficiency.

Cameron McBride, Director of Digital Technology Services, Western Health states: "We believe that the Modern Workplace program with Logicalis Australia will transform how we deliver healthcare. By enhancing our technology infrastructure and streamlining processes, we are not only improving efficiency but, more importantly, enhancing the quality of care we provide to our patients, with security top of mind. Additionally, this initiative provides a solid foundation for data analytics and AI, enabling us to harness the power of data to further enhance patient outcomes."

Anthony Woodward, CEO, Logicalis Australia adds: "We are thrilled to collaborate with Western Health on this transformative journey. It is a true demonstration of our health sector expertise coming to the fore. The implementation of the Modern Workplace program aligns perfectly with Western Health’s commitment to excellence in healthcare. We believe that this initiative will not only improve the operational efficiency of the health service, but also empower them to provide even better care to their patients and redefine it."
