Data Centre Design
- Do you have a “green
field” site or an existing data centre that needs
updating?
- Are your compute,
storage and network assets on the same depreciation
cycle?
- Could you
significantly reduce support costs by moving to validated
architecture?
- What ongoing support
skills will you need to retain?
The life cycle of a data
centre project can be long and involved, requiring a diverse set of
skills to achieve success. In fact, one of the biggest challenges
Logicalis sees customers facing when evaluating data centre options
is getting all of the different points of view involved to converge
into one coherent strategy.
One of the considerations we take into account
is whether a “validated design” such as a Flexpod or Vblock,
which provides an integrated and proven data centre solution, could
reduce cost and implementation risk. Many of our solutions are
built on a Flexpod or Vblock platform and enable us to rapidly
deploy new applications. While this approach is not always
appropriate if you’re looking to re-use or retain your existing
investment in data centre technology, it’s often cost effective to
use a Flexpod or VSPEX design as the blueprint to a longer term
upgrade strategy.
Logicalis recommends a phased
approach beginning with a period of discovery and
assessment that consists of a review of the existing and
planned data centre space methodology requirements and overall IT
infrastructure. We then apply our staged to designing,
integrating and supporting an “aerodynamic” data centre
infrastructure using the most appropriate vendors and
technologies.
