Logicalis Provides Secure Backbone For Airportlink M7
Secure communications network for ASX-listed BrisConnections
$5.6Bn QLD PPP infrastructure upgrade saves money, provides revenue
and ensures uptime
Sydney, May 8, 2012 – Logicalis Australia, the
IT solutions and managed services provider, has completed the
design, build and implementation of a two part secure
communications network for BrisConnections to underpin the
Queensland AirportlinkM7 Project, a section of the Northern Busway
and a direct link between the Brisbane East West Arterial Road and
Airport Drive, known as the Airport Roundabout Upgrade.
These three projects are critical elements of the South East
Queensland Infrastructure Program and Plan (SEQIPP) and are vital
pieces of infrastructure for tackling traffic congestion, primarily
on the north side of Brisbane. Together, they represent one of the
largest single investment in transport infrastructure ever
undertaken in Australia, with a total project cost of over $5
billion.
The secure Cisco backbone implemented by Logicalis will support
seamless integration between the tolling infrastructure, back
office operations and the public tolling payment system. Internal
operations have been enhanced by providing secure wireless network
services for internal support staff and external contractors.
Brisconnections (BCS) will offer external payment services for
customers who wish to pay tolling fees online.
BrisConnections, an ASX-listed company, went to tender for a
highly available, secure enterprise class network compliant with
financial regulators such as PCI DSS, in September 2011 to ensure
the integrity of confidential financial and personal data being
exchanged across the network. Logicalis was selected on account of
its network design capability, understanding of BrisConnections’
business, and technical competence in delivering security and
networking projects, as evidenced recently by its Australian
accreditation as Identity Services Engine (ISE) Authorized
Technology Provider (ATP) status from Cisco. The ATP designation
recognises Logicalis as having fulfilled the training requirements
and program prerequisites to sell deploy and support Cisco ISE
products and solutions.
Logicalis ensured the network was flexible enough to integrate
other third party systems and devices, while delivering a solution
that helped manage costs and auditing simply and keep things as
streamlined as possible, including implementation of virtualised
servers saving an initial outlay of $250,000 and ongoing
administration costs of up to $50,000 per year.
Logicalis worked with BrisConnections to design and implement
the network which runs in parallel to a network operated by Kapsch,
provider of the tolling infrastructure. Logicalis’ use of virtual
security within the architecture allows externally facing
applications to be securely multi-tenanted alongside internal
databases and servers consolidating assets and centralising and
simplifying IT management. This work was completed in
parallel with the live production network ensuring service
availability during the implementation. It also provides a business
grade Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) to allow staff members to
securely roam the campus whilst maintaining access to all of their
services. The WLAN will accommodate the vast number of contractors
who regularly visit the BrisConnections premises and use their own
devices access to access external resources.
“It’s not every day your company gets to work on one of
Australia’s largest and most public transport infrastructure
project that integrates so many technologies and business processes
- security, cost management, transport and high availability. We’re
proud to work with BrisConnections in support of its objectives to
deliver the best possible public service,” added Oliver
Descoeudres, Marketing Director, Logicalis Australia.
