Logicalis Brings Tomorrow’s
Workplace to Today’s Businesses.
survey shows efficiencies still to be made using
collaboration, mobility and communications technologies

Sydney, November 15, 2011 – A survey by Logicalis, the
storage, security, server and IP networking integrator, shows
Australian organisations are lagging when it comes to offering
advanced communications and collaboration technologies, despite
employee desire for workplace technologies to be extended beyond
the corporate network.
Logicalis’ ‘Tomorrow's Workplace’ survey was
conducted as an insight into how organisations are collaborating
today, which challenges are being addressed and how efficiently
workplaces are using communications technology. Respondents
from 135 organisations were surveyed.
The Logicalis ‘Tomorrow’s Workplace’ survey
shows a high level of adoption in standard audio-conferencing (62%)
and web conferencing / document-sharing (54%), however, one in
three organisations (32%) have only email, IM and basic presence.
Just 14.4% of respondents cite using advanced presence
(application, device, and location awareness), and surprisingly,
only half the respondents (49%) indicated they had mobile access to
email. Slightly fewer (37%) could access the same collaboration
tools off-site as in the workplace.
Aligning business and IT, and meeting end-user expectations were
the two most critical business challenges being addressed through
collaboration solutions. This reflects the impact of technology
consumerisation and the increasing pressure on IT departments to
offer greater flexibility to end-users - without compromising
security and compliance.
There was broad agreement that "the business
IT experience should be as good as what staff enjoy at home", the
foundation of Logicalis' Tomorrow's Workplace initiative - and that
collaboration helps make staff more productive. There was less
consensus, however, on the ability to measure the Return on
Investment of collaboration.
While one third of respondents has no desktop virtualisations
plans, more than a half has either deployed or plan to deploy
virtual desktop infrastructure. Three quarters of respondents (73%)
plan to procure tablets - or already do. However, over half (57%)
of organisations don't have a mobility strategy. Of those
organisations which already procure tablets, 38% do not have a
mobility strategy. More than half the organisations in the survey
allow personal smart-phones or tablets in the workplace, with
almost half providing basic instructions. Some comments indicated
that respondents were discouraged or limited to seniority or
position.
“We are working with a number of progressive organisations, such
as GPT and Australian Radio Network who are using technology to
redefine their version of the workplace. For the most part though,
there’s quite a difference between what’s available and what’s
being used by Australian organisations when it comes to mobility,
communications and collaborations technology,” said Oliver
Descoeudres, Marketing Director at Logicalis. “Tomorrow’s Workplace
is where most companies need to be to remain competitive, and that
means providing staff with the right technologies to deliver
results.”
